List Styles and TOC - Word 2007
Hello, Word Gurus! I have a question regarding List Styles in Word. I
created my numbering and linked Heading styles 1 - 9 with all nine levels in my list. I named and saved the new style and started list in new document. Although I linked my heading styles to each level, Word does not recognize when I try to use in my Table of Contents. Does anyone know how Word 2007 see's these linked styles and how do I get it to recognize for my TOC? Thanks So MUCH! |

It seems that when saving the list style to the template, it looses its memory and forgets it has linked heading styles. Will the linked styles not save with List Styles? Thanks So MUCH! |

By default, when you insert a table of contents in Word, the first three heading
levels will be included. Or are you saying that none of your headings show up in the TOC? -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP (Message posted via NNTP) "Mariann" wrote in message ... Hello, Word Gurus! Are you saying that your headings aren't numbered?

List Styles and TOC - Word 2007
I created a list style and linked each level of numbering to heading levels
1-9 then saved the list style to the normal.dot. When I try to use the list from a new document, the heading styles are no longer a part of the list style. They disappear - don't seem to be saved with the list style. The links disappear when I go to a new document and use the list style. So I can't get the TOC to work since it's no longer associated with the headings. (Didn't realize that was what was happening when I first posted.) You'll have to copy both the list style and the paragraph styles to the
template. However, to transfer numbering settings between documents, the following approach will be safer: From a document that has the correct number formatting, use Save As to create a template. Then create a document based on your new template and use the Insert File dialog box to bring in an existing document that you want to reformat. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP (Message posted via NNTP) "Mariann" wrote in message ... Thanks So MUCH! -- Message posted via http://www.officekb.com I'm saying that the linked styles that I create lose their links to the heading styles. I created linked heading styles and when I try to use the Linked style in a new document, the association is totally gone to the heading styles. It doesn't seem to hold the "Links" to linked heading styles I associated with them. (Sorry tried to take a screenshot but it doesn't want to paste.) |

Thanks, Stefan - but since I was using Word's default Heading styles 1-9, they should be already in the normal.dot, shouldn't they? In theory, this should work, right? Is it a bug in Word perhaps, or maybe by design? |

I don't know if it's a bug or "by design." I guess that depends on who you ask!
