Cannot open in Viewer
I created a presentation in PowerPoint 2007 and I wanted to have it printed
at a shop so they installed PP Viewer 2007, but couldn't open the file. They get the following error: PowerPoint Viewer cannot open the file "filename.pptx". To make sure it wasn't their problem I installed PowerPoint Viewer 2007 on another one of my computers, but I got the same error. In the end I just saved it as a PDF, but all the bevelled fonts looked terrible. For future reference does anyone know how to fix this? I want to either be able to open the .pptx file in viewer 2007 or save it as a pdf so the bevelled fonts are sharp. Thanks, Lawrence PS. I also saved it as *.ppt file and viewer 2007 was able to open it, but somethings were not right, such as the bullet point symbols. |

Cannot open in Viewer
Hi
I'm afraid this is expected behaviour - the 2007 viewer can't actually open 2007 (pptx) files (I know, I know - don't shoot the messenger). What are you using to convert to pdf? What specific problems did you have when saving to 2003? Lucy -- Lucy Thomson PowerPoint MVP MOS Master Instructor www.aneasiertomorrow.com.au "3vian" wrote in message ... Surely the 2007 viewer can open .pptx files?
I know it's a complete bodge but they should open. Since it works by converting to a ppt file I doubt if it will solve the problems with bullets though. -- Amazing PPT Hints, Tips and Tutorials http://www.PPTAlchemy.co.uk http://www.technologytrish.co.uk email john AT technologytrish.co.uk "3vian" wrote: I created a presentation in PowerPoint 2007 and I wanted to have it printed at a shop so they installed PP Viewer 2007, but couldn't open the file. Lucy Thanks for the info, but why even call it PPT Viewer 2007 if it can't
even open PPT 2007 files? For the pdf converter I'm using the one that comes with Adobe CS3, perhaps I should be using the one MS let you dl for free... Cannot open in Viewer
Hi John
That's what I meant, I just didn't say it very well :-) The viewer can open pptx files but it converts them to ppts so it shouldn't be relied upon, particularly for a print job. Sorry, I misled you, it should be able to open the files, but it converts
them to 2003 compatible (ppt) so does not *really* open 2007 files. If you get what I mean. The 2007 viewer is basically the 2003 viewer + the compatibility pack. Hopefully they will release one that is truly a 2007 viewer at some point.... Lucy -- Lucy Thomson PowerPoint MVP MOS Master Instructor www.aneasiertomorrow.com.au "3vian" wrote in message ... PPTX conversion or viewing - more info
Had a similar problem.
odfconverter and odfconverter_integrator did a great job but missed one slide with XML charts on it. Powerpoint Viewer 2007 just refused "cannot open file". Read the follwing; http://omnicode.blogspot.com/2008/03...open-file.html Installed Powerpoint Viewer 2003 and the 2007 Office Compatibility pack. They work but they don't convert (anywhere I can see) to a file you can use. I could print to PDF using PDFCreator. Looks like the pressure is on to pay the upgrade tax. |
