Maybe not irrelevant as now I can no longer access
windowsupdate.microsoft.com as it requires the latest version of the Windows Update software and refuses then to install that.. Great. Back to the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility at http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301 perhaps? Mike Walsh, Helsinki, Finland "Mike Walsh" wrote in message ... Maybe he has the Beta of SP1 still on his system. That's possible. Probable in fact as this portable was being used for my own testing purposes before demos to customers came into the picture. (and of course it's not there any more). Bob: I (now) installed the 3.1 installer and later the (real) SP1. I am now on re-boot getting three "Windows Installer failed ..." messages. However that seems to be irrelevant at least to the original problem as the Word Viewer has now (after SP1) installed OK which it didn't before. Thanks to both of you. Hi Mike, In this case it's not so much the order, but to be sure that you have the Installer v3.1 critical update in place after installing Windows 2003 Server SP1. My understanding is that the installer may not work correctly with Office and other MSI apps without the update to MSIexec.exe ============ "Mike Walsh" wrote in message ... It didn't work the first time after running the Clean Up Utility but it did
one the second time (after). and also microsoftupdate now works fine. Let's call it a glitch (and a testament to try, try, again) Mike Walsh, Helsinki, Finland "Mike Walsh" wrote in message ... I have several computers that won't install Windows Update, and I have no
clue why. I don't have the time to reinstall Windows yet again, so I just leave them at their current patch level for now. I think I can download patches individually, but I don't really have time for that, either. "Mike Walsh" wrote in message ...
