Default Yen symbol

I am running Windows XP Home and Microsoft Office 2003. I recently
enabled the Japanese Language option in MS Office, and now all the
file names in my applications are preceded by the Japanese yen symbol
in place of the common back slash

Example: C:??Documents and Settings???c??Normal

What caused this, and how do I return to the normal back slash \
symbol?
