Is it possible to have the properties of ..say a PC (shape) change if I drop
it onto a lab bench (shape). If I have a bench Location of Bench A then I
would like all of the PC;s take on that location automatically.

Not without writing custom code.

How difficult would that be?

short answer - depends on your skills and familiarity with coding and visio.
I'd start over here

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr...ffice.10).aspx

and then download the Visio Sdk.

The basic software skills would be the ability to read and update shape
information, recognize where the shapes are located on a page, etc.

I'd also check Chris Roth's site (has lots of pointers to the other MVPs,
and example code).

What if the bench was a "container"? ;-)

"container" is a new feature in 2010.
