How to make the Global Address List available in Outlook Addre
"Diane Poremsky [MVP]" wrote:
Is outlook online now? That is a requirement. (If you are using RPC over HTTP outside the network its harder to configure too.) Go into the account - tools, accounts - select the acct and click Change then More settings. Is outlook set to use offline or cached? The client PC was online - as Outlook refused to start it is difficult to say whether Oultook was online or not. I used the Control Panel - Mail to get to the account settings (as Outlook won't start I can't use Tools - Accounts) and checked the settings for the Exchange account. This was set to "Use Cached Exchange Mode" and under more settings and "When starting" it was NOT set to work offline (I could not see any other references to being offline other than the location of the offline files). When I tried again without cached mode I got the same error as before. (As I am now at home I am having to connect via the VPN but I am hoping that is OK). |

VPN may make it harder to figure out but won't really matter. If outlook won't connect in classic (non-cached) mode, it means its not talking to the exchange server. This is probably the same reason the GAL wasn't accessible. - Outlook was working OK. - Then I did something stupid (several months ago) and removed the GAL. - Apart from a lack of the GAL, Outlook still working fine. - When I needed to use the GAL I could not see how to reinstate it and posted the original message. - Outlook still working OK. - In repsonse to a reply, I removed and re-added the Exchange account. - Since then, Outlook will not start and comes up with the message previously posted. All of the above does not seem consistent with just a failure of the client not talking to the Exchange server. Either way, I need to get it back working. I suppose the question has now changed and become one of how do I reinstate Outlook. Do I need to go to another forum? |

Did you make a new profile or are you working in your old profile? it
shouldn't matter, but sometimes it does. If you use system restore and go back before you removed the exchange account, you can get that much working... then maybe the guys in the exchange forum will know how to add the gal back - there are exchange newsgroups on this server or access it via the web - http://www.microsoft.com/communities...xchange.client -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. Unfortunately, now back to square one. I assumed it was an Outlook issue rather than Exchange because on a different client with the same user I can access the GAL no problem. However, I will try the Exchange forum to see if I can get a solution. Thanks for your help. |
