Office 2003 Enterprise - can't install or uninstall

I've done a clean XP install with all updates to date. I began to
install Office Enterprise 2003, but got a BSOD (Page memory fault)
part way through the installation.

So I rebooted and tried to reinstall Office but got an error that
setup could not continue.

I've read the MS KB article on uninstalling Office manually.

The KB article mentions opening XP's Installer package and
uninstalling the references to Office manually. However, whilst I can
uninstall some of the entries, others will not uninstall - so I can't
proceed with the rest of the manual uninstall detailed in the article.

Any advice how to proceed?
