Default Mark Index Entry Cross Reference Trouble

Hello,
I am Indexing a 300 page document in Word 2003 and I have noticed something
strange happening whenever I try to cross-reference an entry that only
contains two letters. For instance we use a lot of acronyms, so for the
acronym "AD" I want to refer readers to look under the actual term which is
"Active Duty" I am using this format from the insert index tool: I am using
the classic style, right align page numbers, the first choice of dots under
tab leader , indented type and two columns. So when I generated the index the
term for "AD" ended up looking like this ADSee Active Duty, instead of AD
.................See Active Duty. The tab leader is not showing up when it is
just two letters which is causing the alignment of the two columns to look
like something is off. Has anyone else experienced this? The way I have been
getting around this is just to add a period to the terms that are only two
letters and that seems to work, although I am hoping there is a better fix
for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Thelisha Woods
