Publisher 2000 text moves when viewing in Publisher 2003 and up
I received many Publisher 2000 documents from a client. I work for a
commercial printer and due to problems separating the colors in Pub 2000, I need to open the files in 2003 or newer. When I open the files in Pub 2003 and 2007 the text reflows incorrectly around some images and even runs through some images. And in some cases where there are no images on the page...only text...the text boxes seem to shift up slightly causing collumns of text not to line up. I am out of ideas for workarounds and my client can not afford the cost for me to manually fix every single text box in the hundreds of files he sent. I need a solution ASAP. |

Have your client send the files in the PDF format. There are free converters
around. www.primopdf.com is one that is mentioned here often. -- Mary Sauer http://msauer.mvps.org/ "Shawna" wrote in message ... I received many Publisher 2000 documents from a client. My client has provided files to me in every way imaginable. Sending me the
native Publisher files was our last attempt. He originally sent the files as PDF separations. But everything black on the pages were showing up as CMYK. I had him send as composite and again everything was CMYK. This is when I found out he was using Publisher 2000. I had him send all the original files which I opened in both 2003 and 2007 and started having problems with text moving. I opened the files in 2000 and have no problems with the text but any attempt to output separations the files end up as CMYK. I have used Pitstop to correct the colors but it only changes the vector art. I then use the Touch Up Object tool in Acrobat the edit the images in Photoshop that Pitstop wouldn't correct. But I'm running into problems there where some images are unable to open in Photoshop due to "unsupported color space". There are hundreds of images with this issue and I have not found any solution for that either. I found a very tedious and time consuming way to fix those images using Illustrator but we are talking days of constant work that would take my time away from other important clients jobs and would still cause me to miss the deadline on this job. I would really like a solution to separating the files into solid 100% black PDFs using Publisher 2000 or a way to stop the text from moving in 2003 or 2007. I don't think I can be much help to you.
You might get in touch with Matt Beals, he has been a help here http://www.automatetheworkflow.com http://www.mattbeals.com http://blog.mattbeals.com There are articles I can refer you to that might help as well. Publisher 2000 and Publisher 2002 render only composite RGB color and not CMYK http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239809/en-us PUB2000: How to Control Lines Per Inch (LPI) From Publisher http://support.microsoft.com/kb/212565/en-us How to create a PDF file in Publisher http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302835/en-us Can you send me one of the files? Publisher 2000 files tend to be quite large because of lack of compression. mary-sauer at columbus.rr.com -- Mary Sauer http://msauer.mvps.org/ "Shawna" wrote in message ... for commercial printing don't you want CMYK?
Mary's right though Matt Beals should be able to make better suggestions. Personally, I've never had any problems with Publisher (any version) when outputting to Adobe Acrobat Pro and then sending to commercial print house. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rob Giordano Microsoft MVP Expression "Shawna" wrote in message ...
