Hyperlink opening in same window
Hi
When I open a hyperlink, it opens in the same window. This happens with hyperlinks in Word and Excel also. I have gone into Internet options/Advanced and checked that the re-use windows option is not selected ( in fact I have checked it, then unchecked it to make sure). Can anyone suggest a solution please? I am using IE6 and Office 97. Thanks |

Hyperlink opening in same window
Thanks for your suggestion, but it does not help in this case. I can live
with Internet links opening in the same window. However, some of these are hyperlinks I have created in Word or Excel. These hyperlinks are in procedures hyperlinked to other Office documents. I would prefer the procedures stay open so that the users can look at both at once ( and without adding another procedure to tell them how to get back to the original document or to open in a new window!). I could change all the hyperlinks by going in to each of them and adding a /n tag, but I would like to set up my Office so that any new hyperlinks automatically open in a new window. I think it must be something to do with the settings on this particular machine, but am at a loss to know where to look. PS Sorry for the cross post, but I have had no luck up to now getting help with this, and I was not sure where to put this query. Thanks again. Hyperlink opening in same window
Office 97 uses a "multiple document interface". Office 2000 uses a
"single document interface". Office XP and later offer user-selectible single- or multiple document interfaces. In a single document interface, each open document appear as a separate Windows taskbar item. In Office XP or later, you can choose to enable or disable the single document interface by checking or unchecking the "Windows in Taskbar" box in the Tools-Options menu of an Office application. In a multiple document interface, each open application appears as a single Windows taskbar item. You can switch among multiple open documents in a given open application by clicking on the Window command in that application. You can also "restore down" multiple document windows and manually arrange them on the screen so that all windows are partially or completely visible. In Office 97, adding the /n switch to your hyperlinks is the only way to "automatically" make the hyperlink open in a new window. Alternatively, you can upgrade to Office 2000 or later. Maybe the other Office 2000 use single doc interface, but Excel 2000 uses the same multiple document interface as Excel 97. |

Hyperlink opening in same window
Thanks for your explanation. Unfortunately, it is at work I am having problems and I don't have the choice to upgrade there. I use Office 2003 at home, and have had no problems with that. Thanks again Liz |
