Default how do I make my own contents page so numbers align properly

having trouble trying to set up my own table of contents page... need to
align the numbers so everything is perfectly straight and aligned...but when
i type for example..
Heading

it doesnt align the numbers properly... its out of wack a little...

I know about the automatic Table of Contents option but I dont want to use
that as i've already typed up my own format of how the page should look, and
I dont want it linked to the rest of my document...

You need a right-aligned tab stop with a period leader at the position where
you want the page numbers; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/SettingTabs.htm.

You could use the built-in TOC styles, modified to look the way you like,
but since Word adds the tab dynamically, you'd still have to set the tab
stop.

Mr. Suzanne S. Barnhill is right. You have to use the Right Tab on the ruler
with any leader you wish to seperate the content from the page number. The
reason is when you use the Right Tab, page numbers in double digists aligns
properly with the single digits.
