Default Can't reinstall Office 2007 in Vista

Office 2007 is not working properly, but when I try to reinstall it, I get
some error codes. The computer had Trojan, but that was removed, and now the
anti Virus sweep is clean, and chkdsk reads OK too, but when i try to launch
word, it doesn't open except for the flash screen, and excel will seem to
open, but when you try to launch a file, it goes into a requesting virus scan
and freezes.

You are still infected. Best thing to do in my opinion is to save the Data and all
that needs saving and reformat and do a clean install of your windows and then
Office

I want to elaborate on the successful conclusion of this problem. I had an
unused version of Symantec in the computer, and even though it was not in
use, it asked to perform a virus scan but was unable to do it. I did a
removal of the program through Vista Program removal, and then also did a
registry clean to remove any further reference to it. After doing that, All
of the Office products work fine. The original problem was most pronounced in
Word and Excel. Originally these programs had been working OK, but for some
reason the Symantec Program started performing this virus scan request. I use
AVG 8.5 as the anti virus and it seems to work fine. The computer has been in
operation for more than a month since the repair and continues to work
Fine!!!!!

.... proving once again my unfounded assertion that Norton is itself
basically just a virus.

(In the interest of full disclosure)
I recently bought Norton Ghost, but did not install any of the other options
that are included on the CD. I hate Norton and McAfee because they are all
but impossible to remove without digging into the Registry to edit keys.

I stay away from all Norton Products now. I am using Comodo for the Firewall and AVG 8.5 for the Anti Virus, and both of these products seem to be keeping me safe. I think that the Norton got on my laptop because HP installed it, and then it was free for a limited period of time. I installed AVG on it after that, it was working OK. I know that computer vendors have to install some sort of anti virus on new computers, so seems that is usually Norton for a limited free trial. Most users probably stick with Norton and pay the price since it can be difficult to remove it and install a free anti virus program.

=======
They don't HAVE to, they just do because they are paid to.

Norton, McAfee, et al, pay to get their stuff loaded onto new boxes because
most people will simply get through the tiral period then sign up.
Uninstalling either of these is like cleaning the virus attacks they are
supposed to prevent.

When I buy new machines, I uninstall all of that crap before I use the
machine for the first time. I normally take MSN off, I turn Windows
Messenger off and set it to not load.
