Default Labelling data points on scatterplots

I'm having problems labelling data points on scatterplots
in Excel 97. I don't actually want to label the points on
the chart directly (too many points for this to be
feasible) but rather to use the name that appears when
hovering over a data point. I've tried entering a range
under Source Data\Series\Name box but Excel regards all
the cells as a string and runs all the labels together as
one. Any suggestions?

Charlie -

To label just a single data point with its X or Y value, single click
twice on the point (once to select the series, then again to select the
point). With the point selected, press Ctrl-1 (numeral one) to format
it, click on the Data Labels tab, and select either Values for Y or
Labels for X.
