System Restore---useless??
Hi, due to the Outlook connector forced update, my outlook will not recognize
my primary mail accound and many of the buttons and links do not work anymore. I can't send/recieve or even look at my email accounts. They all died with this update. I tried system restore for 4 days, 1o days and a month back. I get a message telling me it was not done and to choose another day. WhY? I choose dates that are bolded...why won't it restore it?? What is the trick?? |

System Restore will not do anything or any changes to Office apps or Outlook. It
will fix the OS installation only. Have you tried the Detect and Repair option in Outlook. Thank you Pete, I did not realize that.
Yes, did Detect and Repair quite a few times. I'm wondering now if I should update outlook to 2007....would it keep my existing emails? I can't find my .pst folder either...doing advanced search and nothing. They must be hidden well. Thanks again. Yes, it will affect office and any other app as it restores the entire
registry and many settings are stored in the registry. It's best to repair or reinstall after doing system restore though as some dlls might not be restored. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Need Help with Common Tasks? http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/ Outlook 2007: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/ Outlook Tips by email: Exchange Messaging Outlook newsletter: Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. you are using Outlook 2003? I would fix the problems before I installed a
new version. Did you try a new profile? As for system restore, are you sure you have restore points back to those dates? If so, you need to check with windows experts to find out what went wrong. System restore will affect office and other apps and if it worked, it would most likely fix your problem - however the new connector will need to be installed if you want to keep using it. http://www.microsoft.com/communities... ration_manage is one possible newsgroup that might have the answers about system restore - you can review the list at that link or choose the Vista groups, if you don't use XP. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Need Help with Common Tasks? http://www.outlook-tips.net/beginner/ Outlook 2007: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/ Outlook Tips by email: Exchange Messaging Outlook newsletter: Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com You can access this newsgroup by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/office/comm...s/default.mspx or point your newsreader to msnews.microsoft.com. Yes..outlook 2003. I do not have access to Data management, Tools-send
recieve, and when I click on Email accounts..I get a message "THe operation failed due to a registry or installation problem. Restart outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall. I did the repair/detect a few times, I tried restore a few times, I uninstalled the problem Outlook connector a few times, and everything else. I cannot reinstall because I do not have the disc. This computer came with microsoft free for 60 days. I bought it to get a registration number....which is now gone. There is no exe I see to install or reinstall. WHen I went to uninstall microsoft Office, they had a link to FIX. I used it too no avail. I am out alot of money due to outlook connector update. And I can't even save my emails. This really sux.
