If the computer crashes and has to be formated, I dont have the disk to reinstall it. Where can I get a copy of it. You say you were "given this ...desktop". Does this mean by someone within your own family? If not, you would be violating the EULA "contract." Student and Teacher is only to be used on up to three computers within the same household. From the EULA for this product: "1. 1Installation and use. You may install a copy of the Software on three personal computers or other devices in your household for non-commercial use by people who reside in your household. " From further in the EULA: " (b) The license granted herein for use of the Software is a personal learning license intended only for non- commercial purposes by Qualified Educational Users and members of the same household as the Qualified Educational User." Now, if you do qualify for the license, what happened to the disk that was used to install the software? If you can provide Microsoft proof of purchase, it may be replaced by using the instructions he http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302822/en-us - While this site does not say that S & T version is a replaceable item, hopefully they will have information to help for the replacement disk. Of course if you have a legal use, you can find someone else that has the original disk and make a copy of the same version. Missed the follow-up from the OP about Wife's job, but the rest still holds true about use of the software - non-commercial use only. And how would MS know if you violated either clause in the unconscionable EULA? Alias |

I'd suggest the Amazon.com route before anything else.

I just bought office 2007 for my HP computer, do I have to got buy another copy for the dell computer. I don't mind buying another copy but the wife is a Teacher's Assistant and the School user's office 2003 and I worried about compatibility issues. "JoAnn Paules" wrote: That version has been upgraded. You may still be able to find an old copy on Amazon.com or maybe eBay (even tho I don't recommend going that route). -- JoAnn Paules MVP Microsoft [Publisher] Tech Editor for "Microsoft Publisher 2007 For Dummies" "bassfisher6522" wrote in message ... ... "Earle Horton" wrote in message ... Retrieve the Product ID for the copies of Windows and Office installed on the Dell using Magic Jelly Bean KeyFinder or a similar program: http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/prodkey.php Just follow the links to the download, reading the comments as you go. You need the Product ID to reinstall the software, assuming you find a suitable CD. Write down all the Product IDs that are found by KeyFinder and keep them in a safe place. Once the OP has the Product key, then he can either buy a copy off Ebay or get a friend to make a copy - it's not the media that matters, it's the licence key.... I am thinking that it is actually the hologram Certificate of Authenticity or the barcoded sticker with the Product Key that comes with some media sets. If you had to prove you owned it, that is what you would need. With downloaded software though, you could be right. Earle |
