Default Fonts not working

All of a sudden many of my fonts are not working. When I choose them I now
get lines of boxes, or large dots. The fonts are in the font directory and
show up on the list. If I am working off the command line the character of
the fonts are visible, but won't work. If I right click and work off the pop
up menu the fonts show as boxes, and don't work.

I have rebooted with no change. I have checked my default printer and
options and don't know where to go from here. Should I just move all the
fonts to a new directory, delete them from the Fonts dir. and reinstall.

Download TweakUI PowerToy, it has a font repair utility.
This is for Windows XP

I got no change with tweakUI. It was a good suggestion tho. I did try
deleting a font and reinstalling it from my font backup. It didn't help
either. Is this my problem - can't I copy my fonts to another directory
for backup and then copy them back to the font file?
