I am looking for something to help a pet food bank keep track of their
customers from month to month. We keep track of name, address, phone, email, up to 5 cats and 4 dogs, including pets name, species, breed, weight, age, and spayed/neutered, the amount of food given, any special needs, and what requirements that have not been met yet. I was thinking Access would have what I'm looking for but I don't know much about it to even know where to begin. ANY help would be beneficial and greatly appreciated. We would also need to be able to print out information on index cards or labels that contain the immediate information like: owner last and first name, pet name, species, weight, food alotted. |

That's very narrow and specific; most templates are much broader and more general. It's best to think of Access, not as a set of finished products, but as a toolkit from which you can build something specific for your business; i.e. you don't get a garden storage shed, but rather lumber, nails, hammers, screws screwdrivers and hinges. g Access is very much capable of doing what you ask; a database I built is in use by a number of animal shelters, and tracks tens of thousands of animals, including most of the characteristics you mention. It would be overkill for your application (not to mention pretty expensive) but yes, you can do all this. You might want to look at some of these resources, especially the tutorials: Jeff Conrad's resources page: http://www.accessmvp.com/JConrad/acc...resources.html The Access Web resources page: http://www.mvps.org/access/resources/index.html Roger Carlson's tutorials, samples and tips: http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/ A free tutorial written by Crystal: http://allenbrowne.com/casu-22.html A video how-to series by Crystal: http://www.YouTube.com/user/LearnAccessByCrystal MVP Allen Browne's tutorials: http://allenbrowne.com/links.html#Tutorials or post back if you have specific questions. -- John W. Steve Stevie is our own personal pet troll who is the only one who does not understand the concept of FREE peer to peer support! He offers questionable results at unreasonable prices. These newsgroups are provided by Microsoft for FREE peer to peer support. There are many highly qualified individuals who gladly help for free. Stevie is not one of them, but he is the only one who just does not get the idea of "FREE" support. He offers questionable results at unreasonable prices. If he was any good, the "thousands" of people he claims to have helped would be flooding him with work, but there appears to be a continuous drought and he needs to constantly grovel for work. Please do not feed the trolls. John... Visio MVP |

Tiffany,
If you want to build it yourself there are lots of example databases out the Microsoft's database template page has some generic templates: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/te...172481033.aspx Since I'm a pet lover and myself and my wife have 4 cats (one has FIV) I could throw something together for you for free. Maybe get you started with a back-end database and the front-end code to link the tables and some basic screens and reports. If the terminology "back-end tables and front-end to link the tables" is foreign to you I recommend you either take some steps to learn microsoft access or hire a professional. I'm pretty busy on Monday but feel free to give me a call later next week or send an email at any time if you would like some help or just call me if you have questions while you are building the database yourself for some free help. I would have to ask you a few questions about what you need to build your database. I also might ask for a testimonial if I end up building you a database for free, you know get those pet lovers to pick RPT Software etc.... You can always try google for "Microsoft Access Consultant" http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...s+cons ultant or "Microsoft Access Template" http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...=&oq=&gs_rfai= -- Mark Andrews RPT Software http://www.rptsoftware.com http://www.donationmanagementsoftware.com http://www.microsoftaccesstemplate.com "tiffany_m" wrote in message ...
