I've changed the backcolor of a subform but there is a bar along the right
side (where the vertical scroll bar will appear) and bottom of the subform
(where the record indicator is) that is still in the generic grey color.

Is there a way to change the color on these?

It sounds like that grey is part of the main form. make sure to change that
background color too.

Make sure you check the Form header/footer page header/footer and detail
backgrounds of every form. Thats 5 sections in each form
