Default No icon for *.doc files

Hello, All!

After upgrage Office 2003 to Office 2007 I see no icons in Explorer for Word
documents.

How can I fix this? What could cause the problem?

Best Regards,
Voronkov Konstantin

Set your file associations up so that Word is the default program for it.

Hello JoAnn!

It is already set. If I double-click on the *.doc files then Microsoft Word
is started.

Thanks for your response,

Default No icon for *.doc files

I have Windows XP sp2.

Something damaged Office icons, e.g. *.doc, *.ppt files are displayed in
Explorer as if no applicaiton is assosiated with this file type.
I have no idea how to restore icons, I do not want to reinstall Office
completely, because it takes a plenty of time.

Thanks for you assistanse,

Konstantin

Default No icon for *.doc files

You don't have to reinstall anything - let me see if I can find some
well-written directions for you.

Okay - try this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310192

(The icons can literally be anything you want but we get accustomed to the
standard icons.)

Default No icon for *.doc files

Thanks JoAnn,

I found a way to change icon. The problem happens because of remains of
Microsoft Office 2003.

I changed icon via "Folder Options" - "File Types".
There is a possibility to change icon for specific file types.

The problem was because there was set path to deleted file with icons

C:\Documents and Settings\ProfileName\Application
Data\Micorosoft\Installer\(90110409600-11 D3-8CFE-01 5O048383C9}\pptico.exe

A provided the same file name as for *.docx documents and this solved the
problem.

Best Regards,
Konstantin

Default Fix for all office icons not showing up in windows 7

Ok, after lots of time spent on google I've figured it out.
My .docx (word) .accdb (access) .xlsx (excel) and .pptx (powerpoint) files in explorer just showed default (as in no assigned icon) icon.

So since you can no longer go to folder options--file types like in XP now you have to edit your registry and use an icon extraction tool.

Here are the steps (I'll use word as an example)

1.) Download this icon extractor found here; http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/iconsext.html

2.) Locate the actual .exe of word (mine is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.exe)

3.) Run the icon extractor, paste the location from step 2 into the top box, then hit the search for icons button.

4.) Find the icon you would like to be the new default icon and take note of the order it appears in in the window (normal order left to right such as 1,2,3 and 4,5,6 would be on the next line down etc.)

5.) Now use your location from step 2, mine is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.exe and place ,number of icon after it. for example..
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.exe,2
and copy that to your clipboard

6.) Click start and type in regedit and hit enter

7.) Go to http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/ch...s-7-and-vista/ and this site will guide you through the rest of the steps

You can repeat this process for other programs in the office suite.
