Default date in a sql statement

What is the criteria to put a data in a query. I what to have the user
select the correct date. I've tried

#[date]#
[#date#]

Please help me out.

Not sure what you mean. To prompt for the date, you'd do...

SELECT Employees.HireDate
FROM Employees
WHERE (((Employees.HireDate)=[enter date]));


To specify a date, you'd do...

SELECT Employees.HireDate
FROM Employees
WHERE (((Employees.HireDate)=#12/31/1999#));
