Default How do I get a total on a report

My report is based on Date fields, no numbers. How can I total one of the
fields? I'm guessing I'll need to use a Macro or VB. thanks,

Create a new field and set it's control source to:

=Sum(Fieldname)

I think that should work.

The report contains a name, an action taken, contract number, transaction and
a date field.
I would like to be able to total or the action.

Hi Bonnie

To add to Jeff C's post, it is a little confusing as to "what" you want the
total of

If you have field that contain 1 and 2 and 3 the "total" = 6
But if your have fields that contain a name, an action taken, contract
number, transaction and a date field there is nothing really to "total".
eg. Name John and Sally and Jim "total" = ????

I think that most people think of Total as another word forSum but if may be
you are thinking of another calculation.

You could do a Count of fields that have certain data or count IIF or other
calculations but not really a total (sum).

From again Jeff C's post can you give some more information about what you
are trying to get - with an example of the type of "total" you need.
