Default Keeping notebook up to date

When I go away, can I safely overwrite the PST files in my notebook with
those on my desktop and then reverse the process on my return? I want,
obviously, to avoid duplication by exporting or importing data.

No. Overwriting a PST that is configured in an existing mail profile is a
good way to corrupt the mail profile. See this:
