Default Where to get Microsoft Visio shapes?

More and more I am seeing Microsoft release powerpoint and visio diagrams
with incredible shapes in them... they must have a whole group dedicated to
drawing these things. Exchange 2007 shapes were made available which was
nice... but is there a place to get more of them? One would think
Microsoft would make these shapes more available.

Anyone know of a goldmine online where one can snag some of these? The
standard shapes that come with Visio just don't cut it anymore.

Thanks!

Hello Gopher,

Best regards

John

Our group of Enterprise Architects often use Visio to draw out infrastructure
diagrams. Servers, network, PCs, etc.

As an example, Microsoft has put out diagrams showing the architecture of
Exchange 2007 as well as Active Directory. These are available as .pdf
files. The shapes they use on just these two are the type we see on other
similar diagrams from Microsoft.

They released Exchange shapes, but its not the complete shape library they
used on their diagram. Since they seem willing to share shapes I was
wondering if there was some other place one could go to get them.

I did get some good items from visguy

Unfortunately, not everyone at Microsoft knows about Visio. Some of those
diagrams were created in other packages and therefore, the shapes ar enot
available as Visio shapes.

If you do find shapes that are missing from the Visio stencils, it is
probably possible to add the shapes to Visio. They may not be as smart as
Visio shapes, but they will work. Just post references and we will see if we
can find out whether real Visio shapes or if the shapes can be "imported"
