reminder in Calendar

Whenever I set a reminder for an appointment I get a warning that says "The
reminder will not appear because the item is not in your Calendar or Task
folder, is this ok?"

What on earth does that mean?

If you set a reminder in a calendar or task folder that you created rather
than the default folder, the reminder will not fire. Reminders only work in
default folders, not user created ones.

For an add-in that will fire reminders from non-default folders, see

That's not a very impressive feature. I tried the link you gave me but it's
a dead one.
I need several calendars with reminders; one for each of my vacation rentals.

Wouldn't you think, though, that reminders should work in any calendar you
make? Microsoft gets plenty of money for this program and it seems to fall
short.

Milly corrected the link for you.

The reason that MS does not support reminders in other folders is that it
could bring an Exchange server to its knees in certain circumstances.
Reminders are kept in a hidden folder that uses a MAPI restriction to decide
which folders to look at and when items in those folders have reminders that
are due.

If many folders are added to reminders by lots of users that is a heavy load
on the server and the network bandwidth. In most cases it's harmless, but in
certain circumstances it literally can make an Exchange server pretty
responsive, especially since most Exchange servers are set to the default of
keeping all MAPI restrictions cached for up to 8 days.
