Reinstalling earlier version of Office
I now have Office 2007 Ultimate installed on my new Windows 7 laptop.
Most of its components are OK but I am having troubles with Word 2007 and want to revert to Word 2002 from my Office XP suite. I therefore want to install Word 2002 on this same W7 laptop but in a different folder instead of whatever the default install folder is. So my question is Do I need to uninstall Office 2007 before installing just Word from Office XP or can I just uninstall the Word 2007 part and re-install it later. Should I anticipate conflicts or problems with 2 Words on the same laptop? Thank you for any advice. Jeff |

Reinstalling earlier version of Office
In addition to the link Doug has provided, I would urge you to change the
Word User templates folder and the Word start-up folder to new folders and copy the files from old locations to new, before attempting to install 2002. When you have installed 2002 change its User templates and Start-up folders to new (different from 2007) locations also. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org wrote in message ... Before I proceed (with trepidation) help me clarify some issues: a) Unless I misunderstood it, the link Doug provided is to hack the registry to "Use Word 2000/3 Toolbars in Word 2007". Later it says "if you run Word 2007 and an earlier version such as Word 2003 together" ..... and proceeds to the registry hack. I am not clear if the registry hack is to "Use Word 2000/3 Toolbars in Word 2007" or to run Word 2002 and 2007 concurrently, or for both. Could you please clarify for me? (Also it says it is for Windows XP and I am in W7 but I assume it is the same hack). b) I assume - perhaps mistakenly - from your instructions that it is not necessary to first uninstall Word 2007. Is that correct? Again thank you for all the help you provide. It is wonderful that you do this for persons you do not even know. Jeff |

Reinstalling earlier version of Office
The registry hack is to avoid the reconfiguration that will otherwise occur
when you switch between the two Word versions. The toolbars issue is incidental. It should not be necessary to uninstall Office 2007 first. They will install into different program folders - but share some default user folders - unless you change them first as in my previous message. The same should apply to Windows 7 - though the dialogs may be different. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org wrote in message ... I assume the change is made in the registry because I did not find it on Word Options. I looked in the registry for mention of both folders, including Hkey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Common\Genera l\Office\12.0\ and others but could not find where the template and start folders are specified. Can you help? |

Done! Reinstalling earlier version of Office

Saved my registry using ERUNT, modified it as suggested by Doug, found and copied the folders as suggested by Graham and chnaged the locations defined in Word Options then installed only Word 2002 into a separate folder. Opened an old Word 2002 doc in it and it seems to be fine. One strange thing: when I view the document page in 2002 in Print layout, I see half a square in each page corner. It obviously marks the margins and is not a problem but they were not there in my previous installation of Word 2002. What are they? Thanks for all the help. Jeff |

See "Margin marks or crop marks appear on each corner of the page when you
open a document in Word 2002 or in Word 2003" at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=839371 -- Suzanne S.
