Default Product key is correct...it tells me it is not!

I just bought a new Toshiba laptop and I am trying to set up my email and
first thing is to install Microsoft Office for the first time on the puter.
It asks for Product Key number which I did enter correctly....5 times...and
it says it is invalid....where does one go from there?? It is the Product Key
number on the sticker which is on the CD which came with the computer, it is
not a sticker which is sometimes on a computer itself....This is not my first
computer and I am familiar with the process...but never had this problem
before, I have heard that this can happen if there is a certain font that is
not installed, which sounds ridiculous....please answer soon...I have 14 days
to decide to keep this thing and I am seriously leaning toward going MAC at
this point. Thanks

if you just bought it, then
why not call the seller for
assistance. Also, toshiba
probably has FAQ's for
their product as well.

if they cannot or will not
provide you with any assistance, simply
return it for credit and contact
your credit card people about
charging back the vendor....

in the interim, you might want
to use http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

Its possible that maybe you need to use the
cd and reinstall the o.s. Hope this helps
you figure it out....

If your new laptop has a free trial of Office 2003 already
installed on it, then you need to uninstall the free trial
software before you install your full copy of Office 2003. See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=836178 "You receive an
'invalid product key' error message when you start an Office 2003
program after you install Office Professional Edition 2003" for
more information.

Well since you are posting to an Office newsgroup I am assuming that you are
attempting to activate an Office program. The key from the bottom of the
laptop is for the operating system (Windows) and not the Office program. If
you purchased the Office program you are trying to activate, you need to
find the 25 character activation key provided in the paperwork with your
computer. If you are attempting to activate a trial on the laptop, see the
paperwork that came with the computer or contact the manufacturer.

i would have to agree. this microsoft product is to be desired. as
sophisticated as technology is why is this so cumbersome to enter a product
id? when they mail the product id it is not even in the correct format as
the example format they supposedly accept. i am so disappointed with
microsoft. off to mac i go!

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Oh, when you discover you can
install and use all of your favorite programs, applications, etc., you'll
wish that door hadn't slammed shut.

Of course the OP uninstalled the trial version of Office that was on the
computer and it's activation assistant and rebooted the computer prior to
installing the store bought version with the key on the sticker.......
Yeah, right.
