Default OE newsreader question

When using OE as a usenet reader in XP Pro, where does it keep the database
files on the newsgroups I'm subscribed to?

I don't mean the mail, but I guess it would be the .dbx files for usenet
groups. I've gone to the usual ~docs & local~applications~ etc., but they're
not there.

I ask because when I used 2000, I found that over time, as I
subscribed/unsubscribed from groups, the .dbx files were still there, and
after a year of manic exploring on usenet, I had to manually delete the
files, and I wish to do that here.

I've looked through every windows, apps, IE folder I can think of.

Thanks for any help.

They are right there with the other dbx files. If you didn't find any, it is
because they are hidden by default. Either include Hidden Files and Folders
in your search, or.........

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K03 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options |
View.

If you did find dbx files, but none for the newsgroups, make sure you are
looking in the correct identity.

Default OE newsreader question

Hi Ronald,

The DBX files for the newsgroups will be in the Outlook Express store
folder. If they are not seen the folder view may need to be changed to show
hidden files.

Instead of using search the store folder can be opened directly. Each
identity has its own store folder.

a.. In Outlook Express click on Tools, Options, Maintenance tab...Store
Folder.
b.. Place the cursor at the left of the text of the path to the folder.
c.. Drag the cursor to the right until the text scrolls to the end.
d.. Right-click on the text and choose Copy.
e.. In the Start, Run box right-click Paste. Click OK to open the store
folder.
f.. Close Outlook Express before working with the message store files.

An even easier method when opening that page is to use the Tab to
highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C and close OE, then use Start/Run
and Ctrl+V. Same caveat about hidden files applies but can be easily
modified in Explorer by using Tools/Folder Options.
