" outlook:Contacts\Contacts" one too many
I changed from Windows98 to WindowsXP.
My Windows98 was defective. I backed up my data files with Acronis True Image. I restored my Outlook Contacts but landed up with a Contacts folder containing only one folder labeled "outlook:Contacts". It contained one subfolder " outlook:Contacts\Contacts" which contains my 1000+ contacts each in the appropriate category. I would like to merge the subfolder " outlook:Contacts\Contacts" into the folder "outlook:Contacts". Any suggestions? |

OL stores all data in *.pst files
If in the restore you overwrote any existing pst files you may have corrupted them and possibly your profile. The prefered way to recover a pst is to copy it to your HD, then open OL and File/Open/Personal Folders (wording depends on version, which you dont give) and browse to the pst. You can then close the other pst, and ensure this pst is set as default for mail etc. As it is copy your contacts to the correct folder PS Upgrading an App or o/s is not a cure for a problem, unless you know specifically that it is causing the prob. - unlikely "Gary Gromet" wrote in message ... Thank you for your effort.
Outlook 2002 I have no corruption in the contacts. No pre-existing *.pst files were overwritten. I reinstalled Outlook 2002, restore my pst file from Acronis True image and inserted it into the contacts file landing up with the subfolder contacts listed under contacts as in " outlook:Contacts\Contacts" "DL" wrote: OL stores all data in *.pst files If in the restore you overwrote any existing pst files you may have corrupted them and possibly your profile. Try a new mail profile as yours is obviously corrupted. Control Panel-Mail

If you, "restore my pst file from Acronis True image and inserted it into
the contacts file" That makes no sense, the contacts are within the pst file. Perhaps explain 'exactly' how you restored "Gary Gromet" wrote in message ... Thank you for your effort. The Contacts folder, is a Folder within the OL pst file
You cannot restore, on its 'own', from from a pst backup It may be that you exported your origonal Contacts, then backed up this file. Niether Import or Export is reccommended for an OL pst file. If you have access to the origonal pst file, restore this to your to your HD, do not overwrite any pst, then in OL File/Open browse to pst. Though it sounds like you have a corrupt profile, in any case "Gary Gromet" wrote in message ... I restored my contacts folder using Acronis, then I copied it to my contacts file.
