Default Contacts deleted overnight

When I came in this morning, all of my "contacts" were gone. My "address
book" is still there, and seems unharmed. I tried to restore the contacts by
"importing" the address book (the .wab file for my user). This gave a
"success" message when it was finished, but still the contacts pane shows
blank.

I don't suspect a virus, unless my checkers (AVG and Windows Defender)
missed something.

Searching the knowledgebase doesn't seem to cast much light on the
difference between OE contacts and the wab address book.

The Address Book may appear empty if the number of contacts exceeds 999.

The Contacts Pane may appear empty if the number of contacts exceeds 100.

No, no, no.
The Contacts pane may appear empty if there are more than 999 or 1000
contacts.

I lost my canned replies a couple of months ago, long story, and for some
reason, my backup was just the icon and didn't contain my replies. I got
most back by using Show replies to my messages for all the posts on the
server, and some from a very old backup. This was an incorrect reply from
the old backup and I didn't realize it was wrong when I posted it. (Never
read it). I have corrected it.

Thanks for pointing it out.
