I've tried to change the "display as" field, but it always resets to as in
the "full name" field. (When I send to a contact, o nthe "to:" field ends up
showing the "full name", instead of the "display as" name I've tried to
save. What am I doing wrong?

Is there a way where I could assign "nick names", so it's easier to identify
contacts rather going through a list of the same first names or last names?
each time?

thanks.

#1) Outlook version?
#2) How are you trying to change the Email Display As field?
#3) How are you selecting the "To" name? - from the autocomplete list or
from the contact list?
#4) What exactly do you mean "it resets" - specifically - what, where and
when?

Manually changing the EDA while in contact edit mode should stay exactly the
way you changed it. Exception to this would be if you changed the email
address in which case Outlook will re-populate the EDA field back to its
designated form. Other then that, Outlook doesn't change the field value
that I'm aware of.

Changing the EDA via contact edit mode does nothing to change your
autocomplete list (.nk2 file) so you would need to delete the entries from
that list and select the email address from the contact list (at which point
your autocomplete list will get repopulated)

Are you changing the file as name or the email address display name?
What version of Outlook?

#1)Outlook 2007
#2) i'm trying to change it by filling out hte fileds on the contacts
window/page
#3) I'm not using the autocomlete.
what I'm trying to do is to assign contacts with nicknames (known as
"quickname", in hotmail) to easily find them, rather having to go through a
list of people with the same name. I've tried changing the "file as" name to
the nickname (but the "To:" won't recognize that. It shows as can't find
contact). Filling the "Full Name" field with the nickname, works for the
"to:" field, but it fills out in the format )" and
NOT as I had assigned onthe "display as" (in the contacts). It's confusing,
but that's what it's going on....

#4) by "it resets" i mean that even if I change the "display as" to "name of
)", it will reset to showing (on the email "To") as
)"

All I want is to assing "quick names" or nicknames to contacts

Thanks.

i have Outlook 2007
I've tried many ways. by Changing the "file as" to a nickname, the "to:"
doesn't find that contact. IF I change the "full name" to the nickname, the
"to:" file will find it, but will show the email address with the nickname on
it and not as i had filled it out in the "display as" field.

thanks for looking into this.

You can type whatever you want in the Display as field
(http://www.xsolive.com/Outlook%20Scr...rm.aspx?ID=125)
and it will stick, provided you do not edit the email address field. Then it
will drop back to the Full name ) format.

Are you choosing the person by clicking To and selecting them from the Address
Book view? When you click ToolsAccount SettingsAddress Book tab, select
Outlook Address Book and click Change, what is the "Show names by" order?
