Setting up Gmail account
See...
Recommended IMAP client settings - Gmail Help: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...n&answer=78892 Expand & read the OE section (pertains to Sending and OE's Sent Items folder), then read the suggestions, which include... - Do NOT save sent messages on the server. [1] If your client is sending mail through Gmail's SMTP server, your sent messages will be automatically copied to the [Gmail]/Sent Mail folder. - DO save draft messages on the server. If you want your drafts in your mail client to sync correctly with Gmail's web interface, set your client to save drafts to the [Gmail]/Drafts folder. [1] If the account's configured properly in OE, copies of messages sent via Gmail's SMPT server will not be stored in OE's local Sent Items folder, and drafts will not be saved to OE's local Drafts folder. Setting up Gmail account
On Wed, 8 Jul 2009 21:57:14 -0500, Wyman wrote:
OK I've set up my account per the instructions on Google's site. However I can't configure one of the recommended IMAP client settings. It says to set OE to save drafts to the [Gmail]/Drafts folder but I can't seem to find where to do that. Can someone please let me know where that setting is? I've checked in the options and properties of the IMAP account and still don't see. Here's the link for the recommended settings so you can see for yourself. What link? Anyway, I've just played around, a bit. In MSOE, Tools | Options | Accounts, and selecting the Gmail account. In "Account Properties", there is an "IMAP" tab. When I leave the "Root folder path: [ ]" field blank, I get a folder structure with a sub folder labeled, "[Gmail]", and it shows a duplicate list of the basic folders, except for the Inbox. Something like: [-]GMail |-Inbox |-Sent Items |-Drafts |-Deleted Items |-[-][Gmail] |-Sent Mail |-Drafts |-Starred |-Trash However, when I enter, "[Gmail]" in the field, and refresh the folder list, it changes, thus: [-]Gmail |-Inbox |-Sent Items |-Drafts |-Starred |-Trash |-Sent Mail In first folder list, the icon adjacent to "Sent Items" and "Drafts" is the MSOE default, while the icons adjacent to the "[Gmail]/Sent Mail" and "[Gmail]/Drafts" is the MSOE user created folder icon. And email composed in MSOE, and saved, is stored in the MSOE default "Drafts" folder, and the "Drafts" folder online. Nothing goes into the "[Gmail]/Drafts" folder online. In the second folder list all the email in the online "Sent Mail" folder shows up in the user created "Sent Mail" folder. I made one more change: On the IMAP tab, in addition to entering, "[Gmail]" in the "Root folder path:" field, I put a check in the Store special folders on IMAP server" box, and changed one of the custom fields under "Special Folders". The boxes now read: Sent Items path: [Sent Mail] Drafts path: [Drafts] After refreshing the folders list again, the tree looks thus: [-]Gmail |-Inbox |-Sent Mail |-Drafts |-Starred |-Trash I did some cleanup of labels online, as well. I've not used IMAP accounts that much, and I find the synchronization to the folder labels a bit confusing between the MSOE default folders (unique icons), and the online folders (depending on the service, showing up as user created folders). -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Setting up Gmail account
Hi Norman -
You are an angel! Thanks SO much!! The only change I made was entering [Gmail] in the root folder path, refreshed and got the list I was looking for. There was no need to place brackets around the sent items and drafts as they appeared normal. Again, thanks a million! Regards, Wyman "N. Miller" wrote in message ... Setting up Gmail account
Hello everybody,
I have an inconvenience. I'm using Gmail's IMAP with Outlook 2003. Everything works fine except for the "To" field in the folder "Sent Items". It shows nothing, it's blank. I just checked and the Inbox has the same problem, the "To" field shows nothing, absolutely blank. Did any of these things happened to any of you? Do you know how to solve this? Thanks in advance. 1: Please start your own new thread instead of hijacking another.
2: Please post to the correct newsgroup. Outlook and Outlook Express are entirely different programs.
