Default UNWANTED BLANK PAGES PRINTING

XP/2003

I have a document set up as a 12-page booklet, 11x8.5/landscape format. So
I expect it to print as three 11x8.5 sheets of paper, print on both sides,
which, when folded, gives a 12-page booklet with three blank pages at the
end. When I view the document in print preview, this is exactly what I see.
In normal view, when I look at the little map of the pages at the bottom of
the screen that one uses to navigate to any page in the document, it, too,
indicates there are 12 pages and the last three are blank. However, when I
print the document, it prints SIX letter size pages, with a total of 15 blank
pages scattered throughout the folded booklet. For example, page 1 has text,
pages 2, 3, and 4 are blank, 5 has text, 6 is blank, etc. The printed
booklet has 24 pages – exactly double the amount I’m expecting.

Since this issue does not show in print preview or normal view, I don’t know
what to do. Ideas?

One master is used for all pages.

Thanks,

William

I apologize for the double posting. Both times I hit "Post" I received an

Are you setting up your printer as tabloid (11 x 17) if you are using this size
stock? Do you want the booklet to be 5.5 x 8.5? (letter). Be certain you have
selected booklet in page setup.

If all is correct in your setup I'd wonder if my printer driver needs upgrading.
Go to the manufacturer's web site and look around.

Default UNWANTED BLANK PAGES PRINTING

Page setup gives the following:

Publication type: Booklet
Width: 5.5
Height: 8.0
Landscape
Prints two pages per sheet of paper

The above is what the document looks like in print preview.

I tried printing this document on two different, brand new printers and got
the same result, so I don't think it could be the driver. Also, I printed a
different booket the day before, but on legal size paper, and didn't have any
problem, so I don't think it is the printer(s). Any other ideas?

Default UNWANTED BLANK PAGES PRINTING

Here is another clue. I just created a very simple document with all the
page setup properties listed above. In the document are only page numbers
(1-4). I was expecting a single sheet of paper printed on both sides (1 and
4 on one side, and 2 and 3 on the other). Instead, I get two sheets of paper
(1 and 4 on one side and blank on the other, and 2 and 3 on the one side and
blank on the other).

What happens if you change the 8.00 to 8.5? This is the default for a letter
size booklet. I don't know why you are getting 8" instead of 8.5". I suspect
this is the problem. What is the default setting for your printer?

Publisher cannot control your printer settings. Printing on both sides
of a sheet of paper is a function of your printer. You either need to
tell your printer to print on both sides of the page, or to manually
flip the paper over to allow the printer to print the other side.

Default UNWANTED BLANK PAGES PRINTING

First, Mary, thanks for sticking with this thread. It is much appreciated.
The printers do print duplex. I went back to the booklet I printed a coupld
of days ago to be sure - it prints exactly as designed and expected.
Therefore, the issue has to be something in these new documents, but I can't
see any change on the page setup menu or the print menu. The only difference
between the documents is the page size; letter vs. legal. The latter is the
size that prints with no issue. There must be another direction for me to
explore to solve this?

Thanks,
--
William
