Default Can not patch Office XP

Hi All,

I installed Office XP again. I had no trouble, the installation
complete dialog appeared. According to the Office XP CD I installed
version 10.0.2627.01

Next I tried to install SP3. After a couple of seconds I got the MS
error reporting tool displayed. I do not know what the error is and I
did not send the information to MS. After this attempt I loaded Office
XP apps and the Help|About states that I have SP3 installed. But, if I
go to the Office Update site it states that I need to install SP3.

What is going on? I know my download of SP3 is good because I have used
it to patch Office XP before (had to reformat and reinstall).

What can I do to patch Office XP?

Thanks for any help,

Charles

Hi Susan,

Which post are you talking about? In one post I asked how to Uninstall
Office XP and you helped me there. In my other post I asked how to
determine the Office XP version contained on the CD.

I see no other posts by anyone that is close to my problem.

Am I over looking something?

Thanks for any help,

Charles

Sorry, my mistake.

I believe that cleaning out the Windows Installer data and re-installing
Office fresh would have resolved this problem, as well, but you didn't take
that path.

Sorry for any confusion.

Hi Susan,

I choose not to use the MS utility. But, I did manually clean out the
registry and removed all Office XP files (that I could find). I
'assumed' I had cleaned out enough because the Office XP installer
worked again (it did not work with my previous problem).

Anyway, after a 2nd install of Office XP it did seem to complete without
any problems. I did get the installation completed successfully dialog
at the end.

It was not until I tried to apply SP3 that I got stuck where I am.

Thanks for any help,

CEF

Charles, you will need to apply SP1 first, then the fullfile SP3. Starting
with Office XP SP2 Office patches can only apply to the current baseline -1.
So for SP3 the current baseline would have been SP2 and the -1 being SP1.
Apply SP1 and then fullfile SP3 and you will be good to go.

Hi Brandon,

Thanks for the information. According to the MS web site SP3 is
supposed to included all previous patches. At least that's the way I
read it.

I will try it your way since I have not had any luck and was about to
give up Office XP.

Thanks,

Charles

Well, SP1 does not install. When I try all I get is the MS error
reporting tool (I did not send report, I have no Internet access while
installing software/patches).

I have no idea what the error is so I can not post it here. I think it
is time to give up on Office XP.

Thanks,

Charles
