Default Office 2007 Ultimate upgrade freeze computer after reboot

I have downloaded the Office 2007 Ultimate ISO RTM from Technet. I then
upgraded my PC from Office 2003 Professional. The installation was
successful and it then wanted to restart my computer. I can now no longer
boot my PC into Windows (XP SP2). I get to the login screen and then the
computer completely freezes. I can boot into Safe Mode but cannot uninstall
Office 2007, it gives me an error that it did not finish succussfully after 5
seconds.

Any help would be greatly welcomed!

Dear Customer,

Based on my experience, this issue can be caused by many reasons. As we are
not sure about the root cause of this issue, I suggest you to download and
install Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and then follow the steps to
perform a clean remove:

Before you perform the following steps, please first boot Windows in Safe
Mode with network connection.

#1 Uninstall 2007 Office using Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
#2 Remove the installation files, and stop the 2007 Office services
#3 Remove 2007 Office registry subkeys
#4 Remove 2007 Office installation files and folders

For more information about Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and where to
download it, please refer to this KB article:

290301 Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;290301

About the detailed actions of steps 2 ¨C 4, please see below:

928218 Error message after you remove the beta release version of a 2007
Office suite or program and then try to install the original release
version of a 2007 Office suite or program: "Setup is unable to proceed"
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;928218

Note: although this KB is originally provided for another issue, the steps
in the section of "Step 2" are also useful in your situation. The steps are
not only applied to beta version of Office 2007 but also RTM version.

After you have clean removed Office 2007, please determine if you can login
to Windows XP with normal mode. If you can, please reinstall Office 2007.

Additionally, this can be caused by the hardware incompatible with Office
2007. I know the scenario does not occur in Office 2003, but as far as
know, a hardware which can works well with a previous version of software,
it does not mean it can also work well with a new version. Please go to the
following link to check if your hardware is tested by Microsoft:

http://testedproducts.windowsmarketp...aspx?bCatId=42

If one or more hardware components are not listed on the HCL (Hardware
Compatibility List), it means the performance of these hardware components
are not ensured when working with Microsoft applications. If so, please
consult your system provider to obtain more information.

If the hardware are all tested by Microsoft, then please help me collect
more information to do further research:

1. Please tell me the exact scenario that computer hangs when you log on
Windows with normal mode, do you receive any error message, or what¡¯s the
screen looks like?
2. Please provide the error message with the screenshot when you try to
uninstall Office 2007.
3. Please provide the setup logs in the %temp% folder. (Click StartRun,
type %temp% then OK). The format of the setup logs are as below:
SetupExe(##################).log
4. Please provide MPS_REPORT so that we can do further research.

Obtain MPS_REPORT

1. Go to the following web page:

2. Click to download MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE
3. Double click to run this EXE file.
4. After a few minutes, a CAB file will be generated. Please send the CAB
file directly to my mail box.
