Default Why is my Pst File Sol Large

Why is my pst so large? It is 162 mb. But it only contains about 575
e-mails, included deleted items. Also, I have software that removes
attachments and leaves only a link in the pst. If you took all of the text,
and put it into a wordprocessing program, it wouldn't be more than a 1 mb.

I don't like having such a large pst because it slows up my daily backups.
I know I can archive some of the e-mails, but with only 500 emails (not
including the deleted items), spanning 2.5 months, it shouldn't be necessary
to do that. Does the size of the pst sound normal sound normal?

Why are you storing anything in the Deleted Folder, unless you remove the
older, after a few days
Presumably you have Contacts, Calendar items, possibly tasks & reminders etc
You've tried Compacting the pst?
162mb is not large, and certainly should not cause backups to run slow. My
daily *online* backup , which includes 200mb of pst's takes 10 mins. And a
full data weekly incremental backup to external takes less than that, about
2 or 3 mins
