Macro.dot

Windows XP, Microsoft Office Professional, Word 2003

I have been using my Macro.dot in Word with no problems but I have just
copied it via my thumb drive to my laptop, which has Vista but also
Microsoft Office and Word 2003.

I put it in the default Word Startup folder (App. Data | Roaming | Microsoft
| Word | Startup) but it starts extremely slowly - if it starts at all. I
usually get the message that Word is not responding.

As soon as I disable the Macro.dot, everything works as normal.

I have tried changing the location of the Startup folder but that makes no
difference.

All my customisations are in this macro.dot as I was advised not to
customise Normal.dot.

I cannot find any fault in the template so would appreciate any ideas.

I'd make sure that macro.dot hasn't become corrupt in the process. Flash
drives are not 100% reliable. You should be able to open Word and navigate
to the Word Start up folder and open macro.dot. Check the macros are all OK.
Also whilst it is open, check in Templates and Add-ins to make sure that
macro.dot isn't a daughter template looking for its master template that
isn't available. If that is the case. you can change the association by
attaching it to a local template.

expert on macros!
To bypass the flash drive, I put the macro.dot on to share across my network
and then saved it as a local file in the Startup directory.
When I opened Word, I got the "macro.dot caused serious error .... "
message. I told it to load, which it did after a long time.
Not sure what you mean by a daughter template - if I look in Templates and
Add-ins, I can see Macro.dot in the Global templates and Addins.

I then closed Word but when I tried to open it, I got a message about
Macro.dot being disabled etc.

Is there any way I can retrieve the customisations I have in macro.dot or
will I have to start from scratch and record all my stuff again?

Try using the open and repair option to see if it finds anything wrong with
the template. Also check In Templates and Add-ins to see which template is
attached to it.

In the file open dialog, click the arrow next to the Open button for a
further range of options

Click the little down arrow attached to the OPEN button of the File, Open
dialog to see the open options.
