It was an upgrade over XP.

Were you having issues with XP? Is there a reason you chose not to do a
clean install?

Where was software that dealt with AS400 that was already installed and
configured and it would save time to just upgrade.

I'm not saying that it's a bad idea to do an OS upgrade, however I strongly
recommend that you don't. Reinstalling software is never fun but I've heard
of so many people who end up with weird issues when upgrading that I
personally would never do it.

Did this cause you problem? I don't know. (I wouldn't be surprised if the
AS400 software barfed on Vista tho.)
