error 1706 setup cannot find required files

I teach MS Office in a high school. When I go to MS word,
my computers come up with a message --eror 1706. Setup
cannot find the required files etc--or please wait while
windows configures MS office xp professional with front
page. The message won't go away until we click cansel
several times.
