Default IE 6 Edit Favorites?

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can lead me to either a method for editing the IE
Favorites list, or an application that might be able to do it.

The Organize Favorites feature in IE is pathetic at best and useful onle for
a one or two up change.
My specific problem is my Favorites has become populated with a bunch of
dead links. I determined which ones are dead by using a web authoring tool
to check the links enmasse; I have over two pages worth of dead links I'd
like to remove.

Ideally, I'd like to be able to search and delete items from the exported
Favorites.html and then be able to import it back as my new Favorites
folder.

Between the Favorites Folder and Regedit, I can locate the keys, but not the
actual data. e.g. I have an entry called "mine" and within it, four links,
two of which are bad. I can not find a way to specifically search for, and
remove, the two bad links.
I can remove "mine" if I want to, but not the specific links/URLs.
I've googled without success; all I find there is how to use the
organizer, which isn't what I need.
I've exported the bookmarks and tried to work on them with a web site
authoring tool or just plain old Wordpad, or even Word but the formats are
far from easy to work with and be sure of what's being removed, etc..

So, any advice or links to tools/info or even pointing out something simple
that I've overlooked would be most appreciated.

TIA,

Pop`

I use Windows Explorer. I then edit particular favorites with Notepad.
