Default Saved messages lost on system restore

XP Home machine, outlook express 6

Tried to export messages and got a message box that said it could not start
MAPI. Used system restore to restore to last saturday. Now many of the
saved messages are missing. This is not because they were done after
saturday. All of the missing messages have been there for weeks. Not all
messages are missing but those folders which are missing messages are
missing all of them.

What can I try that might help with this?

A System Restore has nothing to do with your stored mail. That data is not
touched when you set a Restore Point, nor when you roll back to a previous
one. What does cause the problem is shutting down your computer or forcing
OE to shutdown while a compacting of the store taking place, or allowing
your DBX files to grow to such size (by never deleting anything in them)
that they become unmanagable. That often occurs when they grow to more than
100 MB in size although that is not a hard and fast rule. See this link for
some more info about the problem:

The Other E-Mail Threat: File Corruption in Outlook Express:

As for tools to recover from the problem, either DBXtract or DBXpress from
www.oehelp.com can do the job and you need to read about them to determine
which one will best serve your needs.
