Default deleting mail from IE6

After a flood of Spam HTML messages,I lost the ability to delete E-Mails. At
first I could restart the computer but now that dose not even work. I hit
delete and nothing happens. I am running 98 still but was fine until Verizon
opened the flood gate.
E-Mails are backed up on server just want to try and fix with out a full OS
upgrade. Has anyone else hard of this problem?? The verizon news groups do
not mention this but suggested asking here. Thanks Andy

Are you referring to being unable to delete (any) messages in OE6 (in any
folder)?

General OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown
your machine if Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.
