Default No e-mail after Avast installaion

I installed Avast 4.7 home and lost the ability to send and receive email in
Outlook Express. I unchecked the boxes to scan inbound and outbound mail and
again received mail and could send it.
I realize that this should be an Avast problem, but I cannot get an answer
anywhere else. If anyone is familiar with this problem, I would be greatful
for a solution.
TIA...............................Al

It's an OE problem. OE doesn't like anything checking it, be it for spam
or viruses.

I.ve been using Avast free version for years with OE with no sending or
receiving issues.

I'd suggest right clicking the Avast icon (in the tray) - then 'Program
settings' - then the 'Help' button - then select the Outlook Express
settings (you get one for sending and a 2nd for receiving)

Your solutions will undoubtedly follow.

Depending on the quality of the connection to the mail server, any anti-spam
program or email program set to scan email will cause this. Email scanning
provides absolutely no protection over just having the anti-virus program
running its normal resident protection. None at all.

How can it be an OE problem, when other software screws up OE????

OE isn't the problem. The problem is the lack of testing by 3rd party
software vendors or the lack of concern by such.

Fair enough. Is there an anti spam program that works well with OE6?

Thanks,

Only those that work outside / independent of the email program, so no.

The antivirus and antispam people interpose their code in OE's code, so that
is what leads to the majority of problems. If you ran parallel to OE then
it would be something different, and I'm working on something like that.
