Default Reports are hanging

My counterpart in Japan uses an Access 2000 file with security. When
I copy the file over to the US (.mdb only, using my own .mdw)
everything works fine, but after copying the same file back all their
reports "hang". No error message, but no output either. They restore
to a backup made before the file was copied back and forth and
everything works fine. This problem just appeared after they changed
the server the file was located on.

I'm at a loss of even where to start to look for hte problem.

I'd start looking at their security. There's no way that you could open the
database unless the system.mdw were copies of one another. My guess is that
they have it only partially secured, and you changes are causing it to hang.
A second possibility is that you have different versions (even though the
structure is the same) and/or different service pack levels. There may also
be a compatibility problem between the language versions.

The .mdw files are copies of one another. The database is fully
secured - we have been using it with few changes for a few years. The
file is in access 2000. The users all have Office 2007 installed but
also have a copy of Access 2000 installed as well. Not sure of the
service pack levels.
