Just so I'm not leaving you hanging, I contacted my ISP. Their first

Yet you are trying to connect to mail.chirpmail.net for the mail server. These are different domains. Have you asked your ISP if they permit SMTP target to traverse to an off-domain mail server? As part of spam blocking, they may not permit any SMTP traffic to cross their domain until it targets their own on-domain mail servers. According to a domain registration lookup, chirpmail.net is a domain registered to Leapfrog Internet LLC in Colorado USA. Your ISP of algx.net is registered for the domain as XO Communications in Texas USA. So check with your ISP to see if they permit SMTP traffic to target SMTP servers other than their own. Oh you're just not going to believe this. Talked to tech support at
Cricket, got a guy I've never talked to before, their accelerator program had a glitch in it (which apparently no one else in the organization knew about P) ) I had to uncheck a features box in the settings of the accelerator, restart the computer and presto magic it works. SPecifically I unchecked the box that said "Enable SLip Stream email". I can't thank al of you enough, and maybe as several of you suggested I should look into a different provider. To all the MS-MVPs,Kuay Tim, Vanguard, PA Bear, Frank, Bruce and Jim and to all the other MS-MVPs on other boards. Thank you doesn't begin to sum up my appreciation for your help and dedication and not just for this mess of a problem that should have been settled with 1 call to my ISP, but for all your help. These boards are the first place I come when I'm having a problem and 90% of the time I find a solution with a couple of searches. All of you are amazing and I envy your knowledge. So here is the final resolution to my problem (for those of you who haven't seen my reply to Bruce). It seems that the accelerator program Cricket uses (Slip Stream) had a bug in the program. I talked to or communicated thru email with at least 8 different technicians, over a period of a week. All of them had access to my original trouble ticket and my history of problems. A week ago they told me to uninstall and reinstall Slip Stream, which I did. They then went thru all my settings (with the exception of 1). This morning when I called, I spoke to a technician I had never spoken to before (I am on a first name basis with most of their technicians, having spoken to them on more than 1 occasion since I got the computer). This morning with my new technician who didn't know my history and in a call that lasted less than 2 minutes, my problem was diagnosed and fixed. For anyone out there who uses Slip Stream as their accelerator and has to reinstall it or you are getting it new, there is an error in the most recent version. Once you download and install the program, right click on the globe that is the Slip Stream icon in your tray, click on settings, click on features, in the Multimedia section make sure "Enabla Macromedia Flash Compression" is clicked, in the Email Acceleration (POP3) section make sure "Enable SlipStream Email" is UN checked. (resart your computer) And that was my problem the box was checked. Again thanks to all and hopefully you won't have to hear from me for awhile. Karen "Karen" wrote in message ... Is this on dial-up? Even so, I don't think you'll notice any significant speed increase with that accelerator. I've tried several and none improved transfer rates on several hosts on which it was tried (but I didn't try THAT one, but then it is probably some rebranded program with their name on it). If you have dial-up, some download accelerators might give a small increase in download rate but their only good use is a resume function so you can continue the download wherever you got interrupted instead of doing it all over again from the start. However, if you have a cable/DSL connection, don't bother since even if the file download fails it will take very little time to redo it from the start. Most of us had already suggested disabling the firewall and e-mail scanning in trying to get anything in the e-mail path out of the way. I don't think any of us would've suspected some specialty software from your ISP.
