Default Problem installing Office 2003 Pro OEM

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I thought the OEM version was tied
(legally and often technically) to the original system it came on.

I am experiencing the exact same problems installing Office 2003 Pro OEM
as was discussed here in April 2009.

My laptop has preinstalled trial version of Office 2007, but I would
prefer to use Office 2003. With add/remove programs, I've removed all
Office 2007 applications, but not the Office 2007 installation program.

When the new Office 2003 Pro OEM disk is loaded I am asked to enter the
product key and when I hit the button there is a long delay, the ROM & HDD
lights are on but the ROM doesn't sound to be running, then the error
message appears:

Script: D:\autorun.vhs
Line: 12
Char: 1
Error: .\Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application
Code: 800700C1
Scource: WshShell.Exec

What should I do to resolve??? Thanks

I have been using Windiws and Office update to download and notfy critical
updates.
I tried your suggestion but still no go. As before I am asked to enter the
key and when I hit the button there is a long delay, the ROM & HDD lights
are
on but the ROM doesn't sound to be running, then the error message
appears:
