There are alot of people experiencing problems trying to install the Office
2003 SP2 update. I've managed to install the OneNote update but tried the
Office one a few times and still having problems. Any ideas? Everyone seems
to be getting the error code 0x51F

Error code 0x51F (decimal 1311) occurs when Office Setup cannot locate the
installation source. This may occur when the Local Installation Source is
enabled but has been corrupted or deleted. This problem may be avoided by
installing the full-file update for Office 2003 from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en.
The full-file update is the update with filename
Office2003SP2-KB887616-FullFile-ENU.exe. You may be prompted to insert your
Office 2003 CD-ROM during installation of this update.

Hi,

I've tried that update now. It says "Update cannot be applied" but now I
can't open any office programs. It keeps prompting me for the CD, but I am
away at University now and my parents kept the disk, as Student and teacher
edition is registered for 3 computers. Looks like I'm going to have to get
some recorded post going on.
Thanks for your help.

For the record, I had no problem with the smaller of the two install
packages. I can't imagine why any great number of people would suddenly need
the larger file, since how many people would delete MSOCache?

I've installed the new Service Pack 2 also that came as an automatic update.
I was prompted to re-start my computer. Now I can't open Office Outlook. I
get a message saying that it's trying to contact DNS server and it freezes up.

After trying to install the file that was automatically downloaded, and it
keeps failing to install - it tells me so but not why, I am presently
downloading the Full File and I hope that will install. Don't know if I
deleted MSOCache or what that file does.

The first message that I received said: "Outlook failed to start correctly
last time. Starting Outlook in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a
startup problem in order to successfully start the program. Some funtionality
may be disabled in this mode. Do you want to start Outlook in safe mode?" I
responded "no" because I don't know what to do in safe mode. Then the Outlook
popped up but then I received this message from Norton Internet Security:
"Program Control. OUTLOOK.EXE is attempting to connect to a DNS server. What
do you want to do?" I responded: "Always allow all connections....". Then it
froze up and I received "Program is not responding."
