Default [Another] missing file

Dear friends

I had used Microsoft Office 2003 (professional) for a long time when I
bought the Proofing tools (for Office 2003), intalled them and had no problem
with them. Some weeks ago, I had problems with my PC and had to format it. I
reinstalled Office 2003 and updated everything. Today I tried to reinstall
the proofing tools; the setup goes almost until the end, but then it says
that there is a file missing, "SKU01F.CAB". I click on "browse" and point to
the CD, where the file is (it is there, I can see it with Windows Explorer),
but the installer doesn't accept it. Then the setup is ended and I can't use
the proofing tools. I even tried to copy the SKU01F.CAB file to a folder in
my desktop, clicked on "browse" and chose the folder, but it didn't work. If
it is important to know, I am using Windows XP Professional.

Please, could someone help me? I'm a bit desperate.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Mary

Thanks for your answer, but the solutions provided in that website won't
solve my problem:
1. inserting the CD and pointing to the folder where the file is didn't work
before;
2. I can't repair the installation of the Proofing Tools, because it wasn't
installed (so the repair option is not available);
3. btw, the file I'm having problem with (SKU01F.CAB) is not on the list on
the website you suggested (not the Proofing tools are among the applications
to which the article is related).

Thanks again and still looking for help!

Yours

Hello again Principe,
Have you tried the CleanUp utility? I have looked all over for your error and
have no solution. I'd use the CleanUp utility. Be certain you have your product
number handy.

Default [Another] missing file

::::
I too face a similar situation. In my case the missing file
is:-SKU012.CAB.
I am getting regular updates from Microsoft, but for Office 2003 SP3,
since the file is about 117MB,I downloaded it from Microsoft Download
Center and tried to install it,as guided by MS Site and Forums. But
installation stopped showing the error:-"Microsoft Standard Edition
2003 installation error-file not found:A required installation file:
SKU012.CAB could not be found.
Insert the CD or browse to the installation source in your network."
Since the CD is misplaced and not traceable,I tried all
forums, support.Microsoft and pointed it to i386, but still the
installer did not respond. In MSOCACHE and in i386 the file is in
SKU012.xml.I've run the Windows Installer Clean up Utility and removed
Microsoft OfficeStandard Edition 2003 as per the guide in
support.microsoft.com/kb/290301,as seen in Mary Sauer's Notes in this
Forum, but did not yield any result.
*Is there any solution for this?*
I don't know why Microsoft does not give a smooth installation to this
Office2003SP3.

Default [Another] missing file

This post was found here quite awhile ago. Many folks have had success using
this solution.

If you do not have the installation CD and want to solve this issue
follow these steps: (works most of the time with all sku.cab files)

1. Click on start==run==type "excel /s" without quotations and click
ok.

2. Once Excel is up in safe mode with the error message in front, hold
down ctrl+Alt+Delete keys on your keyboard to bring the task manager up.

3. Click on the processes tab==look for msiexec.exe (only the one next
to your user name), click on it and end the process.

4. Excel should be running without an error message now==close Excel in
safe mode==reopen it one more time in safe mode to check if it is
opening with no error message.

5. Close Excel /s and open Excel normally, it should work fine.

The above solution was previously supplied by
(Bahboosh) on other dedicated Newsgroup.

Hello Mary,
Thanks for your valued reply;but, now, what happened is while running
the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, it removed the entire Office
2003 Standard Edition along with its a number of security-update
patches.Since the CD is not there,I think there is no hope of
recovery. As I want to use Word and Excel, I have downloaded the
alternative Open Office.org and running it fine.
Sorry for troubling you.
