"Your message was not read"
After sending someone an email message and requesting acknowledgement of
receipt, what exactly does the response "Your message was not read" mean? Does it mean the intended recipient did not download his mail? Or could it be that my email to him was treated as spam and he never saw it? Or could he have downloaded my message and just not bothered to acknowledge receipt? Thanks. |

"Your message was not read"
Acknowledgement of Read Receipts is dependent upon both the ability of the
recipient's Mail Client to "see" the request and the recipient's choice of how to respond to such requests. I'd say your message was treated as spam and may not have been read. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Mike Packer wrote: After sending someone an email message and requesting acknowledgement of receipt, what exactly does the response "Your message was not read" mean? "Your message was not read"
Any of those are possible.
The read receipts are not reliable over the Internet. Because some spammers abuse the receipts, some mail servers are set to always respond with the not read message regardless of what actually happens to the message. The only way you can be sure that the recipient read the mail is if he replies to it with his own personal message (and not a canned response). -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Mike Packer" wrote in message ...
