Default Outllook start failure

Hi All.
I use IE V6 and the bundled Outloo kExpress as email. i
had no problems but suddenly one day it would not longer
start.

I got "Outlook express could not be started. The
application was unable to initialize the store directory.
Your computer may be out of memory or your disk is full,
contact Microsoft Support for assistance, (0x80004005) "
then you get "Outlook Express could not be started
because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. Outlook Express
may not be installed correctly"

I uninstalled re-installed again and again and no go. I
have now deleted Express and even manually deleted the
directory after the remove was complete.

I see HKEY registry entries under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Indentitities\uid
value\Software\Microsft\Outlook Express\5.0

My question is why is this still there and can I delete
it before I re-install OE V6?

TIA
Roger

Hi Roger,

A bad start is usually caused by corruption or damage in the message store.
The Inbox, Outbox and Sent Items folders and their corresponding DBX files
are often where the problem lies. Other DBX files can also cause the
problem, however. Software from 3rd-parties can also interfere with Outlook
Express. One example is the message scan plug-in for AVG anti-virus.

You can search for the message store folder by search for *.dbx files. You
can try renaming the most likely problem files and then import messages from
these renamed files. You could also try moving all the DBX files to a
message backup folder on the desktop...leaving the message store folder
empty. New DBX files will be created when Outlook Express starts. Use the
desktop folder to import your messages.

1. Quit Outlook Express.

2. Right-click the Start button, and then click Find or Search.

3. Search for *.dbx. You may need to include hidden files and
folders.

I had a problem with outlook express not starting. It would open
once with windows start-up but if i closed it, it would not
re-open. The problem was solved by unclicking the 'mail scan' bit
in AVG....If you are using AVG this should solve your problem
best wishes.....kelvyn.
