Default Win Explorer XP 'remove program'

Dear all,

I have been trying to remove a certaqin program which
pretty much acts like a virus. The program is
called 'Switch' and makes a folder called 'Online Direct'
or 'NowOnline'.
It acts as my opening page for Internet Explorer and
contains all sorts of links, mainly adult material.

In Win Explorer XP I have tried to remove the program,
but if doing so it comes up with an IE screen where I am
supposed to click a link that would delete the program.
But then very briefly there is a downloading screen for
some sort of program. Pops away and 'Switch' remains in
my program files. I have tried everything, have been
deleting all sorts of files, linked to it whatsoever. I
have downloaded programs such as AdAware 6.0 and SpyBot.
But nothing makes this program go away.

I even sent an email to the webmaster of 24start
(developer of this program) to ask him how to delete it
from my system. He first replied with the words "people
complain about this program as if it installed itself,
but you will have a VeriSign screen asking your
permission" As I am very cautious with downloading
programs from the internet I have never asked for this
program. Secondly he gave the instructions for removal
for a Win 2000 version.

Anybody who knows how to delete programs without having
to use the add/remove programs screen in XP. Just by
Exploring itself it does not show the Switch program.

Please help me out. I have already informed the local
authorities about this hideous program.

Thank you in advance.
Yours truly,

Jorn Eiting

Gordon,
see your point.
The web based reader is valuable for its integration as an option for assistance in Office System 2003. Ease of user interface and quick links to Office Online is an added benefit.
There is a new beta version that is improved over the current web reader.
